Motor Vehicles

The Town Clerk will register new motor vehicles during the following hours:

MON - 10:00a to 5:00p    
WED - 10:00a to 4:00p 
FRI -  10:00a to 3:00p   

APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL DEALERSHIP PRESENTED REGISTRATIONS

Per HB 391 "This bill requires that a current photo identification be presented to the Town or City Clerk to obtain a registration permit."

Per State of New Hampshire RSA 261:148: IV, you must have your registration in order to renew your vehicle registration. As a courtesy, the State will allow you to present your renewal notice instead of your registration.

PROOF OF RESIDENCY FOR NEW RESIDENTS:

Proof of residency is required by the Town of Lincoln and the State of New Hampshire for new residents to register vehicles.  We will accept one of the following documents, as long as it is dated within the past 60 days:

• Utility Bill
• Pay Stub
• Rental/Lease Agreement

The State relies on the towns and cities to enforce residency; a resident is someone who has, through all of his actions, demonstrated a current intent to designate that place of abode as his principal place of physical presence for the indefinite future to the exclusion of all others (State of NH RSA 21:6). If the City has concerns about your residency, you may not be permitted to register.

FOR NEW VEHICLE REGISTRATION PLEASE BRING:

1. Copy of the CTA form (provided by the dealer – either blue or white – thin paper, and says “TOWN CLERK COPY” in red at the bottom of the page) OR original Title OR MCO. If the vehicle was made prior to 2000 and has NOT been previously titled, you will need the bill of sale with odometer disclosure and a VIN Verification form
2. If the vehicle is leased, please provide Lessor information (name and address)
3. Copy of the driver license
4. IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING PLATES – the original registration from the vehicle the plates are coming from
5. PAYMENT TYPES ACCEPTED: Cash, [One] Check or Card
